THE PRINCE explores cultural identity, racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia and what happens when the responsibility is placed on an individual to stand up for and represent their culture. The story is inspired by true events that happened and continue to happen with my family. I wrote the first draft before the 2016 US elections. With hate crimes on the rise in Trump’s America, the message behind THE PRINCE feels all the more relevant. If we want to change our damaged culture and make our society safe and inclusive for everyone, we need to be conscious of the stories we tell. This film is meant to be an eye opener to the great responsibility we have as citizens and as artists, and I sincerely hope it inspires individuals to acknowledge their own prejudices, and to take the initiative to engage with communities that are unfamiliar to them with an open heart and mind.
